Organisational Development

Strengthening Strategic Communications for Greater Impact

One of the Consortium’s key focus areas is Organisational Development. As part of this commitment, a training session was organised for members of the Communications Committee, bringing together communication leads from various member organisations within the consortium. The two-day training took place on 16 and 17 April 2025 in Lusaka, Zambia.

Ms Mweembe Sikaulu, a highly trained branding and communications specialist with extensive experience in strategic communication, corporate identity, and public relations for non-profit and private sector organisations, facilitated the training.

The overall aim of the session was to enhance the communication capacity of member organisations in order to support effective advocacy, visibility, crisis management, and stakeholder engagement. Specific objectives included:

  • To build participants’ capacity in developing and implementing robust communications strategies;
  • To provide a clear understanding of the core roles and responsibilities of a communications department;
  • To introduce key concepts of branding and their relevance to organisational identity;
  • To promote alignment of communication efforts with organisational missions and values for greater impact.

Strategic Policy Formulation workshop for Sustainable Growth

As part of the Consortium’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and operational efficiency, a policy formulation workshop was held in Siavonga, in the Southern Province of Zambia. This training was a key activity outlined in the Consortium’s roadmap, focusing on the development of essential policies and operational guidelines.

The agenda featured critical topics including sustainability, an overview of ReachAll’s project management system (a member of the consortium), urgent fundraising strategies, and the development of a capacity-building plan. These elements were strategically selected to guide the Consortium’s efforts toward long-term impact and effective organizational management.

A highlight of the training was the Policy Formulation Committee’s focused discussion on three priority policies. Which are the financial Policy, Management policy, and the safeguarding policy. The committee reached a consensus to develop clear policy statements and frameworks for each of these, which will serve as foundational tools to direct policy decisions and define information requirements moving forward.

This training not only reinforced the importance of structured policy development but also ensured that all stakeholders are aligned with a shared vision for sustainability and effectiveness across the Consortium’s programs.

Local Change-Makers: Capacity Building Workshop for Fundraising Excellence

In a concerted effort to strengthen community development efforts, a capacity building workshop was held in Shimabala, on the outskirts of Lusaka town, specifically designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the Consortium for Sustainable Development (CSD) Fundraising Committee.

The workshop focused on key competencies crucial for organizational sustainability, including concept note development, proposal writing, effective project implementation, and donor retention strategies.

Facilitated by renowned fundraising and project management expert, Mr. Dickens Mutumbisha, the sessions provided hands-on learning, practical tools, and tailored guidance to equip participants with the confidence and capability to drive their fundraising efforts forward.

The workshop was a resounding success. Participants left better prepared to craft compelling funding proposals, manage projects efficiently, and build long-term relationships with donors. As a result, the CSD Fundraising Committee is now more empowered than ever to achieve its goals and make meaningful contributions toward its mission of sustainable community development.
